The sun is shining, the car is fixed, AC/DC is on the stereo, and something is beheading people in Montana – obviously, all is right with the world. The guys find out that the beheaded people are, in fact, vampires, which changes things.

They meet up with Gordon Walker, a bad-ass hunter who's been taking out the vamps. He declines their help – then is glad to have it when the guys rescue him from a vamp who almost beheads him with a saw. Dean beats the crap out of the vamp, then takes quite a bit of pleasure in beheading him. Sam is concerned, but Gordon approves, and Dean thinks he's found a confidant. When Sam leaves (in a bit of a huff), Dean tells Gordon how he's really feeling about John's death. Gordon tells him that's good – Dean can use those feelings to fuel the hunt.

Sam calls Ellen to check on Gordon, and Ellen tells him he's bad news. Before Sam can share that tidbit with Dean, he gets snatched by vampires. They take him to their secret hideout … and don't kill him. They're kinder, gentler vamps, who subsist on cattle blood instead of the human variety. They just want to be left alone. But when Sam returns to the hotel with this message, Dean doesn't want to hear it. Neither does Gordon – he leaves to hunt the vamps down.

Sam and Dean find Gordon torturing the leader of the pacifist vampire gang. Sam wants to free her, but Dean isn't convinced until Gordon grabs Sam, cuts his arm, and tries to force Lenore to vamp out. She does briefly, but she regains control of herself. Dean's in favor of releasing her then, but Gordon insists that the only good vamp is a dead vamp – hell, he even killed his own sister when she got turned. That does it for Dean – he pulls a gun on Gordon and tells Sam to get Lenore out of there. Then he and Gordon fight. Gordon's good, but Dean's running on angst, grief and suppressed rage, so he wins handily.

Dean admits to Sam that his entire world has turned upside down – John taught them to hate everything supernatural, so what if they've killed things that didn't deserve it? He wanted to kill Lenore – how different is he from Gordon? Sam tells him that no matter how he feels, he proved he's not a sociopath like Gordon by letting Lenore – and Gordon himself – live. Sam promises to stick around to keep Dean honest from now on.

Vampires:
I'm with Gordon – they're inherently evil, and must be destroyed.
I'm with Lenore – they can evolve and improve, and they deserve a chance.
I'm with Dean – maybe these vamps were ok, but most of them should be beheaded.
I'm with Sam – ask questions first, behead only if necessary.

What was the best part of the episode?
The moral angst
The blood and guts
The deep philosophical questions
The awesome fights
The return of the metallicar!
